A brand-new group of volunteers were welcomed as "Walkway Ambassadors" on Wednesday August 19th 2015.

The volunteers, who are residents from nearby cities and towns, like Poughkeepsie and Highland, participated in a three-step training course for certification. The course included reading and passing a test on facts about the walkway, how to give a tour and learning the answers to common questions that people might ask. In addition to the training, Volunteers must dedicate 50 hours of service and attend group meetings and trips.

Once completing this rigorous training, new volunteers were inducted into the Walkway's Volunteer Roster during an Ambassador Investiture Ceremony, near the pavillion on the Poughkeepsie side of the walkway. Park Ranger Zack Diaz acknowledged every new Ambassador by name, while Program Manager Susanne O'Neil gave each person a bright red vest with the words "Walkway Ambassador" printed on the back in reflective lettering. Each new member donned their vests, smiling proudly and applauding the other members.
