A Wonderland of Images in Print

Attendees at ArtCentro's latest opening were amazed by the large exhibit covering every wall of the Gallery's First Floor Space. The subject, a stunning gigantic collage titled "Conveying," was created by Xiuhong Sun, a Visual Arts Professor at Shanghai Information Technology College in Shanghai, China.
Xiuhong came to New York through an art exchange program, facilitated by Hudson Center for Creative Arts with Arts Mid-Hudson sponsoring her visa. During her three-month stay, she observed others artists, explored new techniques and visited numerous sites.
Hudson Center for Creative Arts runs the art exchange program that brings Artist from China to the Poughkeepsie area. The program coordinator Xuewu Zheng has been working with Arts Mid-Hudson for the past 2 and a half years.
This project, which took one month of creative time, and two months of collecting over 500 local magazines, pamphlets, and newspapers to create, is the first time Xiuhong has worked with such large amounts of printed paper as her main medium.

Each photo and phrase was carefully selected, and even feature a few local heroes and familiar faces. Most of the images in the collage are moments of happiness. When asked why she chose to cover these happy moments, Xiuhong's response was simple: "Because life is beautiful".

"I think it caputures the times, not just one time, but many moments," said Javier Alvarado, a Poughkeepsie Resident who was in attendance at the opening.
Xiuhong said she is very grateful for the experience and she's even improved on her English-speaking through the experience. If you missed this amazing show, no worries, there are more artists and shows to see just check out http://www.artcentro.org, or call 845.454.4525 for more information!
